Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero struck as City fought back from 2-0 down but the Premier League champions were forced to settle for a draw and remain winless in Group D despite a frantic finish.
Siem de Jong, who scored in the Dutch side's defeat of City in Amsterdam a fortnight ago, found the net twice for the visitors inside the opening 17 minutes at the Etihad Stadium.
The result left City with just two points from four games and needing two victories and other results to go their way to claim a place in the knockout stages.
At the Bernabeu, Mesut Ozil's 89th-minute free-kick rescued a point for Real Madrid from a pulsating 2-2Borussia Dortmund to keep both sides on course to qualify from Champions League Group D. draw with
Marco Reus had deservedly put the German champions in front on 28 minutes with a spectacular volley from Robert Lewandowski's knockdown, but Pepe levelled for the hosts six minutes later with a bullet header from Ozil's cross.
The visitors went back in front seconds before the break thanks to Mario Gotze's chip over Iker Casillas that found the net via a deflection off Alvaro Arbeloa, but Madrid were much improved after half-time and finally got level thanks to Ozil's perfectly placed free-kick.
The draw leaves Dortmund on top of the group with eight points from four games with Real in second on seven, three points clear of Ajax in third.
Elsewhere, Arsenal squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 in Germany as Schalke denied Arsene Wenger victory on his return from a touchline ban.
The Frenchman has been forced to watch the first three Group B fixtures from the stands, including the surprise 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Bundesliga outfit a fortnight ago.
Having held off Schalke's intense early pressure, Theo Walcott netted his 50th goal for Arsenal against the run of play in the 18th minute after Olivier Giroud was dispossessed in the box.
The France international got in on the action eight minutes later with a superb diving header, but Klaas-Jan Huntelaar reduced the deficit in first half stoppage time.
Arsenal were pinned back as Schalke poured forward in search of an equaliser and, despite goalkeeper Vito Mannone's best efforts, it came when Jefferson Farfan fired home via a Thomas Vermaelen deflection.
Olympiakos put themselves back in the hunt for a spot in the last 16 of the Champions League with a second successive victory over Montpellier.
Olympiakos left it late before snatching a 3-1 victory with two goals in the last 10 minutes from Leandro Greco and Kostas Mitroglou.
Those strikes came after Younes Belhanda's second-half penalty for Montpelier had cancelled out Paulo Machado's early opener for the the Greek side.
Olympiakos had lost their opening two matches in Group B but that result lifts them onto six points, two points behind leaders Schalke and one adrift of second-placed Arsenal.
Montpellier, meanwhile, remain on one point and all but out of contention for a top-two berth.
Alexandre Pato denied Malaga the chance to seal progression to the last 16 of the Champions League at the San Siro, as the Brazilian striker kept AC Milan within touching distance of qualification in a 1-1 draw.
Malaga's perfect debut season on Europe's biggest stage looked set to continue unchecked as Eliseu's first-half goal put the Spaniards on the verge of wrapping up top spot in Group C.
But Pato capitalised on fine work from Kevin Constant to register his first Milan goal since December last year - spoiling Malaga's clean sheet in the competition - to book second place ahead of Anderlecht, who are one point behind the Serie A giants.
In the other game Dieumerci Mbokani's first-half goal kept Anderlecht's Champions League hopes alive as they finally earned their first win in Group C, 1-0 against Zenit St Petersburg.
Defeat in Russia two weeks ago had left the Belgian champions bottom of the group and needing victory at the Stadium Constant Vanden Stock to have any realistic chance of reaching the last 16.
And Mbokani's neat finish coupled with a solid defensive showing lifted them ahead of their opponents to third in the standings, a point behind second-placed AC Milan after the Italians drew with Malaga.
Porto lost their 100% record but booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League after a goalless Group A draw against Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine.
Porto's point takes them to 10 points in the group and guarantees their progress after a game of few clear-cut chances which leaves the hosts with little chance of progressing.
Finally Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a hand in all four goals as Paris St Germain thrashed Champions League whipping boys Dinamo Zagreb 4-0.
PSG took the lead after 16 minutes when Ibrahimovic produced a perfect cross from the right for Alex to turn the ball home from 12 yards.
Ibrahimovic was again the provider with a pass from the left that Blaise Matuidi slotted into the back of the net, a move which was repeated five minutes later for Menez to this time benefit from his Swedish team-mate's supply to make it 3-0.
Yet another Ibrahimovic assist saw Guillaume Hoarau complete the rout 20 minutes from time as PSG moved onto nine points, one behind Group a leaders Porto.

FG Has Given Bayelsa Our N17b..Rivers Governor

AS anxiety over the alleged ceding of oil wells continues to mount, the Rivers State Government on Wednesday accused the Federal Government of paying the sum of N17bn belonging to Rivers to Bayelsa State.
The money, according to sources, was expected to remain in a special account until the land/oil well dispute between Rivers and Bayelsa states was resolved.
Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who addressed over 35 monarchs and indigenes of Kalabari Kingdom at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, also accused Federal Government agencies, including the National Boundary Commission, of trying to pervert justice in the boundary dispute.
Amaechi, represented by the Deputy Chief Tele Ikuru called on the National Assembly to come to the aide of the state.
The governor maintained that Soku belonged to Kalabari Kingdom.
He said, “The issue of Soku has been very disturbing to the Rivers State Government. We woke up one day to hear that some oil wells in Soku have been ceded to Bayelsa State.
“We all decided that if we have dispute over the territory, put the money accruing from there into an escrow account. We woke up one day again and the whole money in the escrow account has been given to one party – Bayelsa State.
“As a matter of fact, as I speak to you now, N17bn rightfully accruing to Rivers State has been paid to Bayelsa State.
“Other federal agencies are not helping matters at all. From all indications, all federal agencies we have approached over this issue have all kept deaf ears. The whole world knows that Soku has been part of Rivers State from time immemorial.”
However, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Seriake Dickson, faulted the claims of Amaechi, saying Rivers position was not supported by law.
Dickson said it was unfortunate that Rivers State was dissipating its energy arguing on a matter that had been resolved in favour of Bayelsa State by the Supreme Court.
Dickson, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the “facts on the matter speak for themselves”.
He said, “The government of Bayelsa State has sufficiently made its stand known on the matter. And our stand is duly backed up by law. The law, as we know it, deals with facts and concrete evidence.
“On the issue of ownership and the claim by the Rivers State Government to Sokou Oil wells, I believe it is no longer news that Rivers State Government took Bayelsa State Government to the Federal High Court on this same issue and lost.
“Instead of appealing the matter in the Appeal Court, the Rivers State Government invoked the constitutional provision and filed a suit in the Supreme Court in 2011 and this year, the Supreme Court upheld Bayelsa State position.”
Meanwhile, Chairman of the South-South Governors Forum, Senator Liyel Imoke, kept mute over the oil wells dispute between Rivers and Bayelsa states.
A text message sent to the governor’s phone at about 5pm, seeking to find out if he (Imoke) would intervene in the matter was not responded to.
When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Ita, said Cross River State had no comment on the issue.
Our correspondent gathered from a government source that the state was not interested in the matter because when Cross River State had an issue with Akwa Ibom over the disputed 76 oil wells that were later conceded, following the Supreme Court ruling, no other state from the South-South region intervened.
Also, the Ijaw Legacy Group, based in the United Kingdom, has condemned the protest by chiefs and elders of Kalabari clan over an alleged plot by Bayelsa State Government to annex part of Rivers State.
The group in a statement by its President, Columbus Peterside, said the action of the elders was aimed at destabilising peace in the region.
He said, “We wish to strongly condemn the recent street protest in Abuja by some chiefs and elders of Kalabari clan led by Chief Graham Douglas. The situation, if unchecked, does portend far-reaching implications, especially in undermining the fragile peace currently prevailing in the Niger Delta today.”

Okada rider beaten and stripped naked by policemen (Photos)

It was reported by an eye-witnessed  yesterday. According to her, the naked man in the picture is an Okada man who violated the new Lagos state traffic law. He was arrested at the junction adjoining University road and St Finbarrs college road Akoka by policemen in mufti, and before anyone could say anything, the policemen descended on the Okadaman, beating him mercilessly and then stripping him naked.

They stopped the inhuman treatment after people around gathered at the scene and begged them to stop. This is the police protecting us! SMH!

Veteran actor Pete Eneh loses one leg to illness

It has been a sad news coming from the home of veteran actor, Pete Eneh. Just heard from reliable sources that doctors at Parklane Hospital Enugu had no choice but to amputate one of his legs in order to save his life.

The veteran actor was said to have sustained some kind of injury last year, and because he didn't take proper care of it, it led to serious infection that became hard to treat. The injury was said to have degenerated to a sore and because Mr Eneh was diabetic, it refused to heal. He spent three months at the hospital before he was advised to amputate the leg before the infection spread to other parts of his body.

The amputation took place on Wednesday October 24th after all efforts to save the leg was unsuccessful. Pete Eneh is said to be dealing with it well.
